It was his and his sister’s only way of survival. The crack of thunder in the distance brought Kit back to reality as he sprang back from the owner, acting surprised at the sound of thunder. He looked out the big glass windows to see fat rain drops falling onto the glass as more thunder crashed through the sky. It was strange, Kit thought to himself. The forecast this morning had predicted a light drizzle, but this looked more like a thunderstorm. And even though he had brought an umbrella with him, it didn’t seem to be fit for this kind of weather.

Though she didn’t speak, Jeff could see the word form on her lips: monster. Maybe I am. By the time he was a block from home, the storm had begun showing its force. Raindrops slammed sideways into his body, soaking his sweatshirt. Thunder like a backfired engine sounded close, and the wind tugged autumn leaves from branches, then discarded them like trash.

Thunderstorm Intro: She was his to command! A bright flash lit up my bedroom, followed by an enormous crack of thunder. It was so strong, the room vibrated, and I flinched. It was raining outside and it was pretty heavy considering the way thunder danced and flashed in the sky. “Get up,” he demanded.

Chapter 125: A Dark and Stormy Night A huge clap of thunder nearly shook Shasta from her bed. She had no idea how long she'd been asleep. She had read in bed for a while before finally switching off the lantern. The weather had been calm then. Now, a tempest was unleashing all its apocalyptic fury on her little island. She could hear rain pounding the roof in torrents. Wind howled through the trees and all around the cabin, adding to the cacophony of sounds, and she was blinded by a brilliant flash of lightning, only to be shaken by the immediate report of its corresponding thunder.

With the duvet over my body, I felt warm, except my heart and body was cold. It was raining and the thunderstorm wouldn’t stop, at least not any time soon. I’ve always been scared of thunderstorms and rain and that night, it worsened. Coupled with the memories of Manuel trying to force himself on me, it was a hellish moment for me. I wanted to run to Ember’s room and stay with her but I couldn’t possibly do that, not when she was still mad at me. “You will be fine, Kaida.” I chanted in my head, trying to stop the trembling of my body as another thunderstorm struck and the lightning from it slipped into my room.

Cai was mid-sentence, describing a specific word problem about trains he'd apparently hated with real personal conviction, when the first crack of thunder hit. It came sharp and sudden, close enough that the windows rattled slightly in their frames, no warning rumble beforehand to soften the arrival, just noise, loud and immediate, the kind of thunder that means the storm's already on top of you instead of still approaching. Cai stopped talking mid-word.

The desert isn’t used to being challenged, you know, and for a while it is overwhelmed. It doesn’t know how to fight back against this horrible, hateful rain, and it floods. When that happens—”

The thunder strike and made a very loud noise, the weather became very dark and just like that, it started raining with huge storms covering the atmosphere. TBC
