Tucker, who was cradled in the older boy’s arms, looked up at her and oinked again. From the looks of it, he was more than enjoying the food and attention.

He heard her catch her breath, the brush dropping from her fingers as her defensive expression softened. “Look, all I intended to do was see if I could track the demon. I had no plans to confront them without Trevor.” Rhye stilled, struck by the sudden realization that Lily had managed to do what he’d tried and failed to do. “How did you track him?” Her lips twitched at the hint of irritation he couldn’t hide. “Garnarld mentioned Jasmine’s obsession with his chocolate butter fudge. Jum nodded and quickly excused herself from Lily's presence. So the one-child woman now resumed her cooking activities. Half an hour later, the pandan-flavored cookies were already being smelled by anyone who passed by the kitchen.
