He nods once and strides toward Briareus.
He’s barely ten feet out when the Titan roars, “TURN BACK, SPIRIT. NONE WHO ENTER HERE RETURN.”
All of his mouths speak at once. The sound hits like a thunderclap. We all duck, covering our ears.
“Mighty Briareus, oldest of the Hecatoncheires, uncle to the Olympians—I greet you with respect and beg your benevolence,” Odysseus calls.
Somehow, I know he’s speaking Ancient Greek—and somehow, I understand it. Judging by the confused-but-comprehending faces around me, everyone else does too.
