"I’ve saved you the trouble of throwing me out. I’m leaving. For good."
"You’re going nowhere!" Edward roared.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket—a sharp, insistent haptic rhythm.
He went to silence it, but as his eyes fell on the screen, the color drained from his skin, replaced by a deathly, bruised purple.
He stared at the screen for a long, agonizing beat before letting out a guttural, jagged laugh. He turned the phone around, thrusting it inches from my face.
"So this is it," he sneered, his voice shaking with a volatile mix of wounded ego and hatred. "This is why you’ve suddenly found your spine. This is why you’re so 'brave' tonight."
