We both needed something to wear tonight. I ended up finding the perfect dress. It was super low in the back.. basically completely backless. It showed off my new tattoo I’d gotten of a beautiful mountain range on my back shoulder. It reminded me of my trip to the Arctic. And it made me happy that I’d finally gotten it .. I had wanted it ever since I came home. Bridge had gotten a tiny heart on her wrist.. indicative of her ‘wearing her heart on her sleeve’. Which she most certainly did. It was perfect for her.

I’d even go so far as to say you could fill a boat with the number of ladies who hounded you! I thought I’d just give it a shot. “Even if I’m rejected, I wouldn’t have wasted too much money on it. What am I going to do if I use platinum or diamond for the heart and I get rejected in the end? I could’ve had a lot of delicious food with the money I saved.”

“Let her at least see what you’re all going crazy over” The room grows silent again as Spin holds the opened box out to me. I lifted the heavy leather jacket out of the box, with the back of it facing me. The crew’s symbol is dead smack in the center of the back, and tiny pink rhinestones have been stitched across the shoulder blades spelling out ‘queen’ in all capital lettering! The sleeves are pink leather, and the word ‘wifey’ has been embroidered down the back of each arm in black. When I hold it out in front of me, it reads ‘Queen of Hart’s’. I rubbed the rhinestones before looking up into Spin’s smirking face and asking, “you want me as your queen”?

she frowned indecisively. I pulled the necklace she’d given me, the cuff Dmitri had given me and a pair of chandelier earrings made of black and fire opals, off the vanity. “Cuff means no sleeves so that means the suites are out.” She held up the earrings to the dresses. “The black one,” she sounded as uncertain as I did about which color was appropriate for tonight.

I pulled a gold arm band from the box, its inscription was delicate, and lovely, and the band itself hammered so thin, it was feather light. "Thank you," I breathed, "It's beautiful." My dress was long sleeve of snug velvet that stretched, but not enough to slip the band on under my sleeve, all the way to my bicep. So I slipped it on over my sleeve instead, using magic to ensure it wouldn't slip off as the evening progressed.

She smiled as she glanced at her wrist in adoration. "You like it?" I asked her although I already know her response. "Very much." She smiled. "But why are you giving me this? You've done a lot for me already." Alex asked curiously. "It's a welcoming gift as a new member of my dance group and many more are coming. Promise me one thing Alex, can you do that?" She nodded. "Please don't ever take this off, cherish it very much and don't let anyone take it away from you. Remember you mustn't pull it off, it should always be on your wrist, alright?"

When did she even get these made? “What did she do to the three of us?” I asked. I happily put my shirt on. Damn right we were her property. She also just gave me a great idea for some shirts of our own for her. She pulled the top of her dress down to show a sigil over her heart. It had a faint white glow. I looked, and mine was the same way.

She had been wearing longer sleeved tops and dresses lately just to cover her arms. I looked at her while arranging my shirt. “Baby is that what you’re wearing today?” “Yeah, is anything wrong with it?” She asked. “Well, no but the weather is getting really really hot. You’ll sweat in that. You can wear something on the sleeveless side” I said. This was just a ploy to indirectly make her show her arms. Her face dropped “Femi I’ve told you so many times that the scars will show if I open my arms.”

I look like a villain trying to cosplay a groom — tan tux, white shirt, peach tie. A peach-flower boutonniere is pinned onto the left lapel of my blazer, just above my heart. Which makes sense, since it symbolizes the connection of the heart between you and your partner on your wedding day. Mine is more like an apology on my chest for all the chaos I’ve caused in life.
