Over the summer of my fifteenth year, my budding breasts exploded and my new breasts most definitely interfered. The boys themselves put the biggest damper on things. The same ones I played football with during weekend pickup games changed overnight. They made up sexual stories about me and passed them around high school as truth.

We’ve known each other all our lives, and the bond between us was bigger than what most siblings could have. My bestie. My first love. My everything – well –apart from my father who had taken care of me ever since Mom left. He also means a lot to me. People would always mistake me for a boy at first sight. Only when they look harder would they realize I was a girl. And why did I become a tomboy? Because Lucas was like my twin. I learned how to dress like him, learned how to drum like him but never cut my hair which I always plaited into two rough ponytails.

Even having a brother does not guarantee that she can survive all these things, even her brother is one of the ferocious predators who is always ready to attack her anytime and anywhere, knows no time and knows no place.

As if that was not enough, her appearance and style were anything but that of a growing up teenage girl. She was a self-proclaimed tomboy. Listening to her mother talk nonsense freely irked her beyond words. Her only weapon was to pretend as though she heard nothing for the time being. She was still under her parents’ custody and would not have any say in her life,no matter what she did. She would endure her mother until she was of legal age to take actions in her own hands.
