I growled uncontrollably as I exposed my teeth. "I'll make them regret ever betraying me."

They surrounded me. I screamed when one suddenly rushed. I sat down again in fear. "I haven't taken a bath yet! I don't taste good!" I closed my eyes. If they eat me, I don't want to see them! But after a few minutes, I didn't feel anything from my body. When I started to open my eyes, the roar of the beast exposed me. "Damn this silver chain! It's going to screw me up again." He said, irritated. "They're not your friends?"

A sound tore from his throat that wasn't human or animal, it was the sound of tearing meat. ‎ ‎CRACK. ‎ ‎His robes shredded. ‎ ‎Bones shifted under his gray skin, rearranging themselves. His spine lengthened, spikes of bone piercing through the flesh of his back. His jaw unhinged, extending into a muzzle filled with rows of serrated, metallic teeth. ‎ ‎He grew. And grew. And grew. ‎

Without thinking, I offer him a snarl – which on my lips sounds more like the grumble of an angry kitten, but I”m sure my intentions are clear. Sinclair’s hands tighten around me. His power washes over me, and I wish I had a tail to tuck between my legs. “Did you just growl at me, little mate?” Despite my trembling spine, I tilt my chin up defiantly. “Why not? You growl at me all the time.”

Frost steamed faintly where his breath hit the frozen air, curling around him like a ghostly cloak before dissipating. His face—gods, his face—It was leathery, almost reptilian, but still disturbingly animal. A long snout curled into a perpetual snarl, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth the size of daggers. Saliva dripped from his fangs, sizzling as it hit the cold ground. The smell of it—hot, metallic, wrong—hit the back of her throat and made her stomach heave.

His large fangs were protruding out of his lips, like he was about to shift but was stuck mid-shift. “Bloody hunter!” He growled in a low voice as his claws lengthened.

He had a crooked smile on. “You are scary to everyone else but me.” I smiled back. He raised his eyebrow at the challenge. “Really, I don’t scare you?” I shook my head and reached for another sandwich. His eyes turned silver, his lips drew back over his sharp teeth and I heard a loud rumble roll through his chest before he gave a loud growl. I bit into my sandwich and gave him an unimpressed stare. “Is that all you’ve got?”

A low, guttural growl rumbled from his chest as he rose to his feet, towering and powerful. “Mate,” he growled, voice deep and feral

He licks my face, as if taunting me, his tongue hot and rough and disgusting. My skin crawls, but I do not have enough air in my lungs to scream. When he bares his teeth, I know I’m dead. The river crashes behind me. The wind stirs the branches above. Fight, it seems to say. Fight. Fight. Fight. I bare my teeth back, feeling something feral and wild knock loose inside me. His lip curls above his teeth. And then a lower, more threatening growl rumbles through the forest. It stirs the trees and shakes the earth. Blake’s ears prick up.

His excitement is nuclear, impossible to ignore. Nathan scrapes his teeth together into a fierce, proud grimace. “Look!” Two perfect rows of tiny teeth glint up at me like half-size Tic Tacs pressed into a line. I freeze, unsure whether to celebrate or panic. Cole sees the hesitation and intervenes. One enormous finger presses lightly against a slightly wobbly tooth, nudging it almost imperceptibly.
