After we got fresh and clean again, we got into bed. I’d promised Lio that I would sleep naked with him so, here I was being spooned by a werewolf. My life was definitely not normal. Lio was kissing the back of my neck gently and it sent shivers through me each time his lips touched my skin. How was he doing this to me? “Astraia, I’ve never known anyone who reacts to me as strongly as you do.” He said nuzzling his nose in my hair.

The reason Tess got bitten. My hands clench into fists, heat curling low in my gut as my wolf lunges against its cage, snarling in fury. “What the fuck do you want?” I bite out, my voice sharp enough to draw blood. Astrid arches a perfectly plucked brow, her eyes flicking down to my crotch with slow, deliberate intent. “That’s not very friendly,” she purrs, lips curving in a mocking smirk. “Judging by that hard-on, I’d say you’re feeling plenty social.”

CHAPTER 7 Time narrowed to teeth and breath. The creature’s jaws snapped toward my throat— “DOWN,” I said. I didn’t shout. I didn’t beg. The word left me like it belonged to someone else. The air clenched. Ash exploded upward in a tight column and slammed the creature to the ground. The impact shook the ravine. The creature thrashed once—then stilled, pinned, as if gravity had doubled. My knees nearly gave out. Dax caught my elbow. “Again,” he said. “Make it obey.”

My sudden appearance sent a wave of relief through the group. Astrid's eyes widened for a split second. Panic flashed before she forced it down, replacing it with confusion. "Y-Your death countdown… Why is it gone?" I met her gaze, my voice calm and edged with mockery. "Yeah. Guess I beat death this time." As I spoke, I tossed what I was holding onto the ground in front of her. It hit with a sharp clatter.

“Thank you.” Korrin looks like he wants to say something, but he doesn’t get the chance before Astrid yells, “What the fuck was that?” from where she is lying on the ground. “What kind of monster is he?!” Then she gasps. “And wait, he is your fucking mate, isn’t he???”

At that moment— *grr brrr…* Suddenly, a strange noise broke the brief silence between the two. Astrid’s face instantly turned red, and her stomach growled so loudly that Joshua must have heard it. Only to see Joshua sigh and get up to retrieve the still-hot soup from the table. “ Drink this. ” Seeing the soup in front of her, Astrid tried to sit up and take it, but with a slight effort, a sharp pain came back in her stomach. She couldn’t help but furrow her brows, about to fall back onto the bed, when suddenly she felt a firm touch at her waist and a male breath came near her. She saw Joshua’s face less than ten centimeters away from hers.

"Damn it, Elodie. Stay." He came with a guttural roar, his seed a hot brand inside her. The aftermath was a stinging hangover of cold air and the lingering warmth of his skin. He pulled away, his eyes searching hers for a promise she couldn't give. Elodie stepped into the clearing. Astrid was already there. He stood in the center, a tall, gaunt figure in rags. But his eyes... they weren't the eyes of a brother. They were black pits of shadow, leaking a dark, oily mist.

Her eyes closed shut and she bit down on her lower lip. “It’s okay, little one. It’s okay." Zade smiled thinly at her, refusing to move. He needed to give her time to adjust to his size. Astrid's eyes darted around unsteadily before clashing with Zarek’s as a searing pain tore her from the inside.

I’m looking for a moment too long, because suddenly her eyes fly up, meeting mine. Shit. Her lips stretch into a cheerful smile, and she rises from her seat at the table, heading toward me. Double shit. I seriously consider just bolting for the door, but that would make this even more fucking awkward. So I take a step back, waiting for her, wondering what the fuck I’m going to say. “Hi!” Astrid chirps, stepping out of the doorway from the hub. “What are you doing here?” “I, uh…” I grumble, reaching up to run a hand through my hair. I totally forget that it’s tied back, though, and my fingers just get stuck. “I was looking for Theo,” I lie, yanking my hand out of my hair.

I said as I released my thumb with a pop while Astrid was staring at my lips. Her eyes dilated. Her breaths quickened. Her skin flushed. I think I will have so much fun breaking Astrid down until I consumed all of her; thoughts, mind, body, and soul. And I will be damned if that old man Levine got to her first. Astrid Olsen’s POV
