The calm was still there, but beneath it simmered something raw and dangerous.
“Drop your act.”
In an instant, Blaine’s men drew their guns, all of them aimed at me. I stood at the center of a lethal standoff, my existence reduced to leverage.
“Okay. Let’s stop pretending, Adelaine.”
“W-What do you mean?”
“She’s working for me. Everything she did—part of our plan. She’s a spy. Under my command.”
