It seeped into roots, poisoned streams, left fields paler and thinner, as if someone had leached color from the world.
“Look,” Gaia breathed, and the link surprised me because it was deeper than the way minds usually touched. It was full of images and sense; a whole panorama of destruction that slapped me awake. I could feel the way the land had been stripped of its colors and warmth, the way roots cried out.
