The drowned priests appear again (not ghosts now, just tired, grateful).
One by one they kneel.
The storm is quiet.
Trial one ends not with victory.
With absolution.
The gate dissolves into gentle rain that falls upward.
We’re standing together again, soaked, shaking, alive.
Remy’s arms are around me before I can fall.
His voice in my ear, rough with pride and fear.
Remy:
“You just hugged a genocide and made it apologize.”
I laugh (it comes out wet and broken and perfect).
