Glass scattered across the floor like broken memories. He wasn’t supposed to be the one. Never. He shouldn't have done this to me. Matteo? Sure. He loses his temper on cue. Eli? I dropped to my knees in the middle of the wreckage, breathing hard. Shards of glass pricked my palms but I didn’t move.

I don’t know what draws me to this room, but I feel a pull and I follow it. When I open the doors, I stop short. The entire room has been destroyed. There is shattered glass everywhere, the decorations that were once beautiful and elegant are scattered, torn and broken, all over the floor. The concrete walls have holes in them whre it looks like someone took a hammer or large rock and smashed the walls until they started to give. I continue to walk around the castle, hearing the sounds of my men checking in the rooms, doors opening and closing.

“That’s Kimberly warning us we’ve been gone for too long.” I pinched my lips together as rage coursed through me. It swept my vision away, giving the world a reddish tint that instantly made my head throb. The gouges along the mirrors deepened until CRACK! Glass exploded in all directions. Shards of it twinkled like stars, falling from the sky. Both Jude and Ryker erected shields around us. As the pieces of glass hit the barrier of magic they tumbled to the grassy floor.

The question lingered in my mind: where did he even find the resources to throw such extravagant gatherings? Heading to the kitchen, I poured myself a glass of water, mustering the courage to confront Edward. Returning to the room, I hurled the water at him, breaking the glass as it shattered on the floor. "What the hell!" he exclaimed, his gaze locking onto me. "Are you sober now?" I demanded, discarding the glass with a resonating crash. Pulling one of the frame pieces out of the mess, I heaved it with all my strength and shattered the glass. I could get in now, but the snake could also get out. Ignoring her protests she pulled Laura back to the dark corner as Laura turned and looked at Steven with helplessness in her eyes. “Please… Come back to me…”Steven’s hoarse voice sounded and suddenly a huge glass appeared between Laura and Steven. Laura panicked and Steven started hitting that glass with full force, Laura also got rid of her mother’s grip on her arm and started hitting the glass with her bare hands. Soon, a crack appeared on the glass and with a huge sound the glass shattered into a million pieces cutting Laura’s hand in a severe way and blood rushing out of her hands like water. SHATTER ***

The city blurred past the windows, people oblivious to the war tearing through a black car in their midst. Isabelle’s breath came in sharp, panicked pulls. Her chest felt too tight, her vision narrowing. Dante cupped her face suddenly, forcing her to look at him. “Breathe,” he ordered. “With me.” She shook her head. “I can’t”

The sky didn't just break; it delaminated. As the violet-charged sand from the Lung-Engines surged into the petrified atmosphere, the solidified air began to peel away in jagged, skyscraper-sized shards of "Logic-Glass." The sound was a continuous, earth-shaking chime, the sound of a trillion crystalline bonds snapping simultaneously. Below the Spire, the "Sea of Glass" reacted to the falling debris by surging upward in jagged frozen waves, creating a landscape of translucent ruins that looked like the skeletal remains of a god.

"What? Do you think I'm making this up to scare you?" The warm light from above cast a slanted shadow on the edge of the table. He stared at me, and for once, didn't rush to deny anything. "You broke up with me…because of this?" I almost laughed. "Does it even matter now? Even if I were healthy, I never would have lasted long enough for you to finally turn around and look at me. I overheard your friends talking. Apparently, I wasn't even someone you'd be willing to settle for. I used to think we'd actually make it to the end."
