I stood there motionless as I dripped crimson from head to toe. Dan’s car emerged from the underground garage and stopped at the curb. He got out and dispersed those people. Then, he looked at me and sighed. “Stella, why can’t you just take the high road? Why does it have to come to this?” I wiped my face. The red ran down my fingers in streaks. “Take the high road?” I laughed. “How exactly am I supposed to do that?” He said nothing. He got back into his car and drove away.

I suddenly forgot who I was and what I was doing. That snap on my head stayed for seconds. I could hear someone talking but I kept my eyes closed. My head hurts so bad. I want to cry. I crane my neck further to the side, a painful attempt to not indulge in whatever crazy thing he has in mind. Tristan nudges my head to face him with force. He could’ve snapped my neck with that but something tells me he does not care. I grunt, now struggling against his body, trying to move. “You’re just so everything a guy could ever want. He stared at me for a second before he stepped forward and I almost thought he'll just snicker and go after leaving some threat, however, Rough hands grabbed a fistful of my hair, yanking me backwards. “HEY—!” I cried out, stumbling as my scalp burned. I tried to fight him off, but his grip only tightened. “You think we run a charity?” he growled into my ear. “Oh, now you’ve learned how to make a deal?” he sneered, shoving me hard and I stumbled back, feet scraping against the uneven ground, nearly crashing into the rusted dumpster behind me.

Tristan tried to stop them from grabbing me, but his efforts were futile because they warned him to stay away from the Beta’s order. “Let me be!” I tried to make my way out of their grip, but I was weak and couldn’t match up to their strength. “He is only trying to help me! I need to be treated urgently”, I said as I groaned again each time my legs touched the ground. The way they dragged me didn’t seem to help me out because it only intensified the headache I felt at the moment. They pulled me as though I were a criminal and that ached my heart to the core.

Sassy little bitch didn’t hide away in fear. “Damn fucking straight.” He was giving her a hard look hoping she just understood that some things he would not let go. “Does it hurt to hear the truth? Malphas rumbles again, slightly tilting his head. "Well, what?" My eyes return to his. "Do you like...what you see?" He grits out the words through his teeth. I pause, realizing he's caught me in a trap I can't wiggle my way out of. I was staring. 'Why the fuck was I staring?'

“Even if we wanted to adjust the terms, there is no legal requirement for us to do so. You agreed, Mr. Campbell.” His blood turned to ice. They weren’t just pushing back—they were telling him, to his face, that he was trapped. A slow, suffocating pressure built in his chest. His fingers curled into fists, nails biting into his palm. He could feel the weight of his mistake crushing down on him. He had been so eager to prove himself, to solidify his company’s standing, that he hadn’t seen the trap being laid out in front of him. He had been too arrogant to listen.
