Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Four Knight’s POV I found myself trapped in a dimly lit dungeon, shackled to the cold stone walls that surrounded me. The air was heavy with dampness, and the stench of decay permeated the room. Shadows danced across the grimy floor, and an eerie silence hung in the air, broken only by the sound of distant dripping water. My heart pounded with fear and uncertainty as I awaited my fate.

Trapped Milo pov I whimpered and pushed harder, my legs screaming in pain as I rounded a corner. Another hallway. Another one of the endless hallways, and without wasting time, I dashed blindly towards one, passing past closed doors, but I didn’t dare stop to try them. They could be locked. And I know that if i much as I slow down my pace, then I will be caught. I flew past a group of guards who immediately jumped aside with wide, startled eyes, but they didn’t stop me.

But could I really sacrifice myself, like a lamb to the slaughter, just to keep him safe? “I’ll think about it,” I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. “You’ve got twenty-four hours.” I nodded, watching him and the woman disappear through the door. For a brief, reckless moment, I wanted to run, scream and fight. But if they could drag me out of New York against my will, then escape wouldn’t be easy. I was trapped. My hands kept searching with hope. A sound snapped me up. Footsteps. They were very close. My head turned toward the secret channel like it was a door to safety. My fingers scrabbled for the stone groove, for the edge that marks the entry. I pushed. There was nothing. The stone stayed stubbornly, sealed. No. No, no, no. The footsteps were nearer. The door at the far end of the chamber was about to open and I would be caught here. Trapped. I shoved blindly at a low bench near the bed. Dust rose in a bitter moth-cloud. There was space. A narrow space. A child could fit inside but a woman could only fold herself to fit it.

I leaned on the door, closing my eyes tightly, thinking that I was just dreaming. I sigh one last time before taking a peak again and I am not mistaken. It is nerve recking, there are people inside that room and they are all wearing a black cloak except for one and that one is Zipporah. She was sitting in the middle of these people as I counted them one by one. And again, I wish I didn't come here after I count the people, together with Zipporah they are twelve in total. I hope I am wrong. The people inside this room are the thirteen members of the council. But on second thought, yeah, the councils inside this room are just twelve when they are actually thirteen. The scent of sandalwood and rain still clung to the fabric, faint but undeniable. "I should have thrown you away," she murmured to the jacket. But she hadn't. She couldn't explain why, but she had kept it. And she had kept the strange, silver chip she had found in the lining, tucking it inside a hollowed-out book on her shelf. She zipped the bag back up. "New life," she told herself. "New start. No looking back." Maya closed the closet door. The Next Morning. The glass tower of Thorne Tech pierced the sky like a silver needle.

It was a death trap. I was trapped. I backed into a corner, my back hitting a cold cinderblock wall. The two security guards shambled through the archway, blocking my only way out. The legless crawler was dragging itself across the cafeteria floor toward the entrance, sealing the corridor. The moans from the main entrance of the library seemed to be getting louder. They were all converging. My breath came in ragged, useless gasps. The beam of my flashlight trembled violently in my hand, dancing over their advancing forms.
