She ran around, trying to find a way out, but kept getting stuck in the endless corridors. The sound of her halting feet and ragged breathing created a heart-wrenching silence. "Damn it," Selena muttered, groping the walls for clues. However, the more she walked, the more she felt trapped in this underground maze. As she rounded another corner, she froze at the sound of approaching footsteps. Selena held her breath, trying to control her fear. I sank back against the cold metal locker, my knees trembling so hard I could barely stand. The trap was closing tighter every single day. I thought I was getting closer to finding my brother, but instead, I was just drowning deeper in the mud of this place. I had to go down into that basement tonight. I had to let those strangers look at me, all while knowing that Val was holding the rope around my neck, waiting for the perfect moment to pull it tight.

“Goodbye, and congrats on the engagement.” I slip out of the closet, Lorenzo is still frozen on the spot, he is not saying a whisper, he didn’t even try to stop me. He is just standing there like a statue. I conjure up all of my strength and shut the door behind me. It’s kind of poetic, closing a door on an old chapter of my life as I try to move forward.
