I felt an overwhelming sense of gratification after looking at Vivian's miserable state. It was only just the beginning, though. It wasn't long before Brandon heard Vivian's agonized cries and quickly ran over, grabbing Peter's arm. "What are you doing, Mr. Nash?" Brandon grew increasingly anxious when he saw his beloved's swollen, bruised face. Mr. Lister was even more frantic than he was. "You're here at just the right time, Brandon! The first time I fell, my knee smashed into a rock. Then I went down twice more. My fingers clawed through the mud, nails ripping back. Blood from the cuts on my legs soaked through my pants. My eardrums popped with a stinging, high-pitched ring. The light was a blinding, white-hot sphere of concentrated energy. It burned through my eyelids, leaving purple fractals etched into my retinas. Shrapnel—shards of the drone’s casing—hissed through the air like cutting glass. The roar was subsonic. It was a deep, guttural vibration felt in the marrow of my bones before my ears registered the auditory trauma. The air displacement created a vacuum that pulled at my robes, followed by a wave of scorched heat that smelled of melting Barzil and burnt insulation.

He roars—mechanically. Suddenly, he freezes. Inside, an invisible battle rages between Sona and the clone. After ten minutes, a massive explosion erupts. I am thrown aside. When the smoke clears, Lucas lies on the ground in his normal form. Sona lies unconscious beside him. The silver locket rests on Lucas’s chest—now completely black. I rush to him. His wings are gone, burned to ashes. He opens his eyes—clear brown. “Sophia… I drove it out. But it took all my technology and life force. I am just a mortal now.”

Sonia held the kids close, her gaze fixed on the sky now shrouded in darkness. “Hic.” Sonia paused and looked down to find Vladimir clinging tightly to her, hands over his ears, clearly frightened. “Vlad…” France said, concern etched on his face. We were winning. Then, the ground vibrated. From the dark ridge overlooking the courtyard, a heavy, armored Zunter vehicle rolled into view. Mounted on top was a massive, satellite-dish weapon. "Seth, get down!" I screamed through the link, but it was too late. A massive, invisible wave of high-frequency acoustic energy discharged from the dish. The sound didn't hit our ears—it hit our skulls. It was a localized sonic weapon designed to shatter a wolf’s internal equilibrium. Hunter and Seth dropped to their knees, clutching their heads as their wolves howled in pure agony.
