She looked at her sister with concern. “Poppy, why are you crying?” I could see the panic in Poppy’s eyes as she struggled with what to say, so I preempted her. “She’s fine.” I turned to Chloe. “She thought you had left, so she tried to chase after you.”

"Nah, she's got a hard noggin." "Give her to me before she gets hurt." I put out my hand, and Tilly dropped her down on my hand. "Poppy, are you sure you're okay?" "She nodded with watering eyes and then shot Tilly, the bird." I looked at Tilly, and she threw her hands up, "I thought it might work." Poppy flew off my hand and grabbed Tilly's foot, snagging her upside down. "Poppy, stop! You guys are acting like children! AND it's raining on my parade!"

Their faces, which had looked stern, began to soften, and they even looked surprised. “Did you experience it yourself?” Poppy nodded slowly. “See! The rumor wasn't made up, it really happened.” "What exactly happened? Can you tell us about it?" Poppy slowly swallowed hard when she got that unexpected reaction. Seeing their intense stares, Poppy had no choice but to tell them how she was caught in a landslide when it happened earlier.

More blood poured from her wound, making her dizzy, her vision blurring. Poppy approached, her expression hard and cold. “I’m sorry, but I am doing this for the pack,” she said, her voice unwavering. With a flicker of guilt in her eyes, a single tear rolled down Poppy's cheek as she pushed Naya toward the edge. Just then, a black shadow appeared, a blur of fur and fangs, clamping its jaws around Poppy’s hand. A guttural scream pierced the air, raw and filled with agony.
