I yanked my arms together, using the trolls' strength against them, and flipped over, so I faced them. Flapping my wings, I used my magic to make my wings pointy, like swords, jamming them in the eyes as I stepped forward. In unison, they screamed out in pain, lessening their grip on my arms. I slapped my hands together, knocking the disoriented trolls into each other. They crumbled to the ground. I stomped down, crushing their oversized heads into a dark, pulpy puddle.

Poppy teases, reaching over to brush his hair back from his forehead. He yawns wide enough to show every little tooth, then blinks up at me. “Can I have pancakes?” “Pancakes?” I echo, feigning shock. “That’s a big request for someone who’s barely awake.” He shrugs, eyes already drooping again. “I like making them.” “Yeah,” I whisper, kissing the top of his head. “That’s reason enough, baby.” Poppy watches us, her expression soft but full of something fierce beneath it. “We’re going to be okay, aren’t we?” she asks quietly.

My head throbs, and my vision fills with stars. But then Poppy screams. “Poppy?” I cry, trying to roll over and summon my powers back, but my fingertips only flicker with light. I’m… spent. Poppy cries out again, then grunts, then screams. I painfully turn to find Poppy being dragged down the beach toward the water by two wolves.

Atlas reacted quickly. He swiftly pulled me into his arms and shifted positions, evading the oncoming Poppy amidst the crowd's gasps. Luckily, Dylan grabbed her arm and pulled her back. Poppy pretended to look embarrassed. With a profound look, Dylan said, "Ms. Poppy, steady yourself!" Poppy felt uneasy under Dylan's cold gaze, her mind shaken momentarily. She quickly smiled and said, "I'm sorry! Ms. Chloe, I startled you. My fault for not standing firmly. Sorry."

With her fists clenched in frustration, Ivy stormed down the hallway, determined to confront Damian for his dismissal.
