Troy sat on the steps of the apartment building, waiting for his ride. He’d brought his drumsticks with him and practiced his movements, tapping on his backpack, which was in between his knees.
“Hey, dude! I like your technique.”
Troy looked up to see Cort walking toward him, grinning at him.
“Thanks, man,” Troy said, stopping and grinning back. “Got to keep my beat up, you know? I don’t want to get rusty.”
