PROLOGUE Long ago in the Land of Ramain, witches or anyone who were practicing witchery were being chased down and executed. The law of Ramain forbade the use of spells, witchcrafts and any form of magic to prevent chaos and maintain peace around the land. Witches escaped and isolated themselves in the middle of the woods, where no one could harm them. They also stayed away from one another to live safely. They wanted to combine species and create the ultimate race. Melanie is a product of their experiments. She survived when no else had and for all intents and purposes was a success. She is a witch with the dna of a wolf. When she gets mad, her eyes shine with an amber hue and her magic takes the shape of a wolf when used. She is strong, physically and magically. However, she still carries the emotional damage from that time. It doesn’t bother me though. I have baggage of my own that she also knows about. We help each other, and she is my best friend and confidant.

I wish I had mastered the art of flying, or had a flying chariot at hand. As the heir-apparent, I was only allowed to master certain aspects of magic–some defense, some basic housekeeping spells, and some healing magic.
