They are both present tonight, the actual moon and the phenomenon that appeared first during the curse and has not fully resolved since, the second light sitting in the sky's eastern quarter with the diffuse quality of something that is not quite celestial and not quite earthly and has found a permanent residence in the space between. The seers call it the Shadow Moon. The wolves call it the Direwolf's Eye. The vampires call it Thornhaven's Watch. The name it carries depends entirely on who is looking at it, which feels accurate.

Suddenly, the ground beneath my feet began to shimmer, and a faint glow emanated from the earth. With a soft whisper, the glow coalesced into a delicate, rose-petal-like shape. The moon rose, a powerful and ancient artifact, materialized in my hands. Its gentle glow illuminated my face, and I felt a surge of energy and connection to the lunar forces. As we walked further, the glorious moon appeared behind the dark clouds. “Oh,” I gasped, “It’s already Full Moon.” I halted my steps and enjoyed the moonlight that showered right to my body. As a werewolf, moonlight could bring both joy and fear. Werewolves usually gained more strength under a Full Moon, which was why I suddenly felt refreshed. I absorbed the moon’s energy to make myself feel better.

One wanted more in the dead, silent heart of solitude, while the other aspired to something far beyond the severe commitments of loyalty and tradition. As I lose myself in the rhythmic trance of capturing lunar beauty, a distant wolf's howl becomes a haunting melody through the woods. Abruptly, the lens darkens, and for a second I wonder if a black cloud has suddenly obscured my view. When I pull back to check though, I gasp.

KuLaa emerged from the darkness of the night and flew to the highest point of the castle's roof. She was draped in her purple wizard cloak and her purple serpentine eyes were blazing with hatred and evil. With her hands placed in a crisscross over her chest and the motes lights of magic swirling around her body like a tornado, KuLaa started muttering under her breath. The wind stopped blowing and a dark cloud submerged the stars in the sky. The moon found its way to KuLaa and shone directly on her. Harnessing the power of the Moon, KuLaa channeled magic from her soul into a silver wand hidden under her sleeve.
