I kept walking toward the back wall then I saw something strange. A soft golden glow appeared between two massive bookshelves I walked past a thousand times. It was a hidden section. The books here looked ancient, their leather spines shimmering faintly. Titles like The Touch of Shadows, Bound by Moonlight, and Whispers After Dark seemed to pulse with their own light. My fingers trembled as I reached out and pulled one book from the shelf. It felt warm, almost alive. I was so curious to see so I opened it slowly.

“My little ones.” “Oh, fuck.” Kael’s voice shattered the silence. Every head turned toward him. His mouth had fallen completely open. One trembling finger pointed directly at my neck. “Raiden…” His eyes somehow grew even wider. “Oh…” His eyes were blown wide. “… good Lord.” He kept pointing. “Your neck. It’s glowing.” Traci rolled her eyes with an amused smile. “Well… dumbass,” She shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah.” She rolled her eyes. “We already noticed that. Duh.”

Chapter 129: The Final Disposition The golden afternoon light slowly turned into a deep amber twilight. This twilight cast shadows across the mahogany shelves of the upper library. Outside the wind made a sound as it went through the heavy pine trees of the Hudson Valley. This was a sound compared to the big storms that had been a part of their lives for the past three years. Inside the only sound was the crackle of the hearth fire as it slowly burned the thick oak logs.

I commanded, my voice echoing with a resonance that was not entirely my own. ​The iron bolts groaned, a sound like a giant waking from a long slumber. The door swung open slowly, revealing a chamber filled with a soft, ethereal glow. Thousands of scrolls were tucked into honeycomb shelves that reached into the darkness above, and in the center stood a pedestal made of pure obsidian. On it sat the book, bound in skin that shimmered like a raven’s wing. ​"The Book of Shadows," Lila whispered, her torch flickering as if the room itself were trying to snuff it out. "It actually exists."

Cigarette smoke floated mystically along the shabby walls of the once luxurious room. The faded green paint everywhere, blotched with bullet holes framed by a web of cracks, seemed liquid and voluminous, and the elongated shadows on the high ceiling seemed about to fall on the only source of light - a dim lamp that stood in the middle of an oblong table with the same amount of time as a lamp, and everything else in an abandoned estate, living out its life alone behind a forest belt.

I will give him more than he bargains for. I go to my new home, a plain suburban affair. It is furnished. Quickly, not breaking a sweat, I move most of the furniture into the garage. Then I retire to the master bedroom, draw all the shades, and lie down on the hard wooden floor and close my eyes. The sun has drained my strength, I tell myself.
