Tessa's POV The kitchen smelled like sugar and vanilla, soft and warm, almost enough to soothe the restless beat of my heart. I smoothed the final swirl of frosting across the cake, steadying my hand so the moon and the little wolf I'd drawn didn't smear. The candlelight flickered across the icing, and for a moment I let myself smile. "My moon goddess," I whispered, folding my hands as if I were still a little girl praying at bedtime. I stood off to the side and continued to watch the chaos ensue. Each of them got a cake and rushed off with their prize like a couple of children. I stood there trying not to laugh as I shook my head. Briar walked up to me with his cake and took a bite. His eyes closed and he hummed at what he was eating. I could see the happiness written all over his face because of what he was tasting. “So what is that?” I asked. “A huckleberry swirl. It's a potato flapjack with huckleberry cream frosting. It’s amazing. Do you want a bite?” Briar offered me a taste.

She became aware that many people were staring at her, so she smiled sweetly while making a peace sign. We decided to go window shopping first after dinner after we finished our meal. We went to the department shop first, specifically to the beauty aisle, because Zeiara had requested it. I came across some beauty and skincare products that I liked and was interested in, so I immediately added them to the shopping cart that Zeeve was holding; he offered to hold it, and so we just agreed. I walked over to her side of the aisle, which was only a few feet away. She was at the part of the store that sold lipstick. I approached her as she handed me a Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Créme Lipstick.

After a few moments, I turned to the girl that was already attached to Sam. "Do you know a girl named Willow?" I asked her. She nodded. "Of course, she's Alpha's daughter. She's nice but kinda, I don't know, different? She's actually younger than the rest of our grade. She's really smart and sweet but I don't know why she's still seeing Jake. Sebastian said after a brief silence. “Wainwright,” I corrected, even though I hated that name. Maya coughed from the backseat, and I glared at her. “Sparkles, you could change your last name to ‘Skywalker’ and you’d still be Haven Kenway to us.” “Sparkles?” I asked. “Well, you’re covered in glitter, so…” I glanced down at my arms, and sure enough, the fucking purple glitter from my costume was everywhere, dancing in the sunlight from the window.

My arm brushes a soft shoulder and I feel tingles, then she turns to look at me and I get lost in her eyes. The bartender’s laugh breaks me from my spell. “Maybe I went strong on those herbs, but I would think a big guy like you could handle them.
