Rhye hissed, already drawing a large blade from the sheath at his hip. With a running leap, he dropped down from the ledge of the building, landing smoothly on the ground in a low crouch. The two Rogues nearest him split up, one taking cover while the other shouted that they were under attack. Rhye silenced the warning in mid-sentence, slicing his length of titanium-edged steel across the suckhead’s throat.

The cage I had built around my wolf, the weak thing I had hated my whole life, shattered like glass. My bones broke. All of them. At once. The pain was white and endless. My spine lengthened. My jaw unhinged and reformed. White fur erupted from my skin like moonlight pouring out of a wound. I didn't shift, I exploded, and the wolf that rose up on four massive legs was not the weak half-thing I had always been. The rogue tried to stop. Its claws skidded on the stone. Too late. She has twin blades and moves like a dancer. I grip my sword and it's heavier than I expected. A rogue breaks through the line and heads straight for me. Instinct takes over. I sidestep and swing, feeling resistance as the blade bites flesh. The rogue yelps and stumbles, not dead but wounded.

“It’s pulling from inside the protected zone. Not from her outer rings.” I feel that in my chest. A low hum. Interest. “Zoom the signature,” I say. He does. The grid flares again. Not smooth. Not controlled. Jagged. Spiking and dipping like a heart that can’t find rhythm. I laugh under my breath. “That’s not her.” “No,” Carter agrees quietly. “It’s not.” I lower the scope. Dawn is bleeding into the sky now. Pale pink. Soft. Almost pretty. “You see that instability?” I ask.

But the Rogue was no ordinary adversary: it was a behemoth, its muscles rippling with raw power as it swung its massive twin daggers with brutal force. She did as he instructed and the blades sprung out. “You made this?” He nodded. “Every rogue carries one.” “Thank you.” She said with a smile. Trevor hesitated before asking. “Did you feel any change when that wolf tried to attack you? Like a primal instinct stirring inside you.”

Darius's warriors took the right flank with less grace but equal determination. And I faced the three in the center. "Might want to call for backup," I said pleasantly. The scarred rogue lunged. I shifted. Not to wolf—I couldn't risk anyone recognizing my silver fur. Instead, I went to shadow, becoming smoke and darkness. The rogue's claws passed through empty air. I reformed behind him, my blade finding the gap between his ribs. He dropped. The second rogue was smarter. He shifted mid-leap, wolf form better suited for fighting an opponent who could become smoke. His jaws snapped where my throat had been.

I glared at him and started walking away. " Ah…Wait..." I stopped walking and turned around to stare down at him. He avoided my eyes again, " Fine...I'll talk" he mumbled. Clover got off him and smiled at me, " You're welcome" she said and skipped away. I turned my gaze back to the rogue. He scratched his his head nervously, " This is so awkward and weird" he mumbled and sighed. I took the time to look at him well. He had dark hair that looked so untidy from him running his fingers through. His eyes were a light grey and his lips were pale and thin. His nose was not so pointy and his brows were on point. He should be at least 6'0 feet.

“Well?” “He has some… characteristics of a rogue: red eyes, difficulty controlling himself, and bloodlust. Still, Daphne, his mate apparently, can calm him. We brought them back here for safety, but during a break out from the prison, Arthur attacked and hurt several of our patrolmen.” Rex hummed, “Tell me about these rogue characteristics? Is he insane?” Blade shook his head, “No. Not… normally. Perhaps a bit distrusting of us, but he is capable of speech and reason. In the midst of battle, however, his strength is overwhelming and his bloodlust only intensifies his aggressiveness."
