I was just focused on the book I was reading, pretending not to hear them. “Hey ugly,” one of them called out. “Hope you are not planning to show up tonight.” I pushed back my glasses that were falling off my nose and continued reading. One of them walked to my desk, grabbed my book and dropped it to the floor. “You don't ignore beauty like us.” She said, titling her head smugly. She continued “have you gotten a prom date? Oops, I forgot. Nobody will want an ugly duckling like you to be their date.”

He unclasped the box, revealing some old books inside. The top novel caught his attention, its dog-eared pages and worn texture hinting at its age. The front cover was missing, but as he flipped through the pages, he found what could possibly be the title written in pen at the back: "Inner beauty and Otter's flaws." This title seemed poignant, considering Arc's past. His mom had abandoned him when he was a child, leaving unanswered questions and unresolved emotions. Arc walked in, and Chelsea looked up and saw his somber expression which was a stark contrast to his nervous energy. "What are you doing?" The question was laced with curiosity and accusation.

“But don’t you like the big doll? Daddy and Mommy got it just for you. It's very expensive than Russel's toy car and Minmin's chocolate.” The doll was nearly as tall as Christopher, its glossy eyes gleaming in the dim, shabby room. In that broken-down house, the expensive doll looked disturbingly out of place. “I don’t want it! I want Russel’s car! I want Minmin’s chocolates! Give them to me! Give them to me!” Christopher screamed, throwing a tantrum. Melda immediately gave in, stroking his hair and whispering, “Alright, alright. Tomorrow. Mommy will get them for you tomorrow.”
