“She’s not part of the Vipers. Why is she playing?” Coach didn’t blink. “We’re not children. We can play nice with everyone.” Molly rolled her eyes, already annoyed. “Ugh, fine. But I think we need to make this game more interesting.” I arched a brow. “You boys are on one team. Us girls, minus Grace, are on the other. Winner gets to dare the losers to do anything they want.” One of her clones, tall, blonde, lipgloss and spite chirped, “And the losers have to accept.”

I try to ignore it, closing my eyes for a second like that might erase something, but it doesn’t work, of course it doesn’t, because there are things you can’t undo, and this is definitely one of them. I get up carefully, groaning when the pain in my face reminds me exactly how the night ended, walk to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. Perfect. Split lip, a pretty visible bruise, and that “yeah, I clearly made bad decisions” face that doesn’t help at all. “Nice job, Lucas,” I mutter, staring at my reflection. It doesn’t fix anything, but at least it makes me feel slightly less ridiculous.

I woke up the next morning in my usual cheerful self well, as cheerful as I could get. After I came home from the meat shop I took a hot shower to cleanse my skin from the splatters of blood, promising myself to take another hot shower in the morning to totally get rid of the smell. Once I was done, I skipped down the stairs to eat a quick breakfast. Mom must have gone to work while I am still in the shower. A five-dollar bill was pinned on the wall near the fridge together with a note.

Sleeping in their beds. A unicorn diary with a lock that popped right open. I didn’t even have to search for the key. Those pages full of looping, curling handwriting, hearts hovering above all the ‘i’s’, spelling out sad words. A plastic Tupperware stashed under a bed, filled with moldy cupcakes and half-opened chocolate slabs, all the edges nibbled at like a night squirrel with clever hands. The word PIGLET taped to the lid, scrawled out in big block letters. Not my box and not my name, but even I felt a little insulted.

“Niki, I am not in the mood for you right now.” “Well that’s too bad,” she said. “Because clearly I need to be the angel on your shoulder to tell you this is a dumb idea. I mean really-Lucy?” she frowned in disgust. “You’re actually going to shower this woman with gifts and flaunt her around, take her to Paris like she deserves all of this-”

She gritted her teeth and snorted, "I think that bump on your head did more damage than we thought, you're sounding dumber by the minute!" "Says the person who pushed me into having that bump!" Chelsea snarled, his eyes flashing with anger.

He finally managed to comfort me and didn't want to cause another scene again. However, after a moment of hesitation, he slowly said, "You probably don't remember this, Cindy.
