Then, my uncle turned his gaze to Jess.
“So, Jess,” he said smoothly, his voice carrying a teasing edge. “How long have you been by my niece’s side?”
Jess fumbled with the napkin in her lap, her cheeks pink. “A… a long time, sir. Since school days.”
