‘It’s working. I opened my eyes and the oak tree filled out. The grass regenerated. The branches straightened out and reached for the sky. The cries of pain turned to orchestras of jubilation. ‘You actually did it.’ Orion folded his arms over his chest. A cocky grin plastered on his face. ‘You sound so surprised.’

The white tree was there too, smaller now, but still standing. A pup asked him: “Were the old wolves stupid? To fight over trees?” Oka laughed. “No, baby. They were brave. They taught us that choice isn’t between right and wrong. It’s between different kinds of right.” “What kind are you?” the pup asked. Oka looked at his moon. The path beneath their feet grew uneven, the forest growing thicker and more ancient as they walked, until they arrived at the base of the oldest oak tree in Valenwood. The massive oak towered above them, its gnarled branches stretching out like protective arms, creating a canopy that filtered the moonlight. Caius stopped beneath the tree, his shoulders tense as he exhaled a slow breath. Lira stood beside him, unsure of what to say, the weight of the prophecy hanging between them.

POV: DARIUS The first light of morning creeps slowly through the trees while the forest still smells like smoke and broken magic. I stand at the edge of the clearing and stare at the well dug ground in front of me.. No one speaks. The entire pack stands quietly beneath the branches of the Moon Tree. Still captivated by the unusual soft countenance on Iditan’s face, I reclined back against the Oak tree which seemed not to posses the hardness of a normal tree, waiting for her to tell the story. The trunk of the tree was soft and comfortable, adding to the serenity. “Iditan…” I called softly as she took her time, curiosity to know more about this protector Oak tree which could seemingly make one at ease and free of worries getting the best of me.
