Merlina's P.O.V The car comes to a complete stop, as we find ourselves a parking spot. As I step out of the car a cool breeze hits my legs, causing me to remember they were exposed. My confidence starts to drain at the thought of people being able to see my scars. "Can I just stay in the car and y'all go shop for my clothing?" I asked. "No because your dumbass will try and runaway." Dylan said before he forcefully grabbed my arm.

"Do you understand what you're offering, boy? This isn't a skirmish. You'll be holding the tide itself." Ariel didn't flinch. "Then I'll be the rock that breaks it!" Pride and dread warred in my chest. I wanted to forbid it, to tell him he was too young, too precious, to face such a storm. But Ariel was no longer a boy clinging to my heels. He was a warrior, blood of our blood, fire of our fire. And he was right-someone had to stand. Still, my voice was sharp when I spoke. "You think bravery alone will save them? You think stubbornness will keep your warriors alive? This enemy does not fight fair, Ariel. They wield black magic, blood rituals. They will tear you apart."

“You will need more than parlor tricks to defeat me.” He came at me again, faster this time. I ducked under his swing and kicked out, my foot connecting with his side. The impact jarred me, but he barely flinched. He grabbed my arm and twisted, pulling me closer. “You are brave,” he hissed, his breath hot against my face. “Bravery will not save you.” It isn’t bravery that I am counting on. I just need the right tool, and I can get him until I can tap into my magic again.

I protested. “He's acting a scene, Aurelia,” Talia began to explain. “He knows that his people have already been moved towards Alpha James due to the latter’s bravery, and he's trying to use a simulation of the exact trait of bravery to get their sympathy, and then their loyalty back—” “I still don't understand,” I cut in, impatient.

He raised his voice, "Of course, you won't complete it! How could you complete it?! You're just someone with some talent in alchemy. You can't do anything else!" Bradley was practically screeching out his words. He looked a little crazed at that point. After everyone looked at Bradley, they did not know what to say. Even Master Forrest was frowning as he looked at Bradley with a conflicted expression. For a moment, she reminded me painfully of Orion, angry not because he wanted to hurt, but because he was scared. My confidence died as quickly as it had come. I lowered my voice. “But… It worked. That has to count for something, right?” “I mean… the outcome wasn’t bad.” She stared at me like she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Do you want applause?” she snapped. “A medal, maybe? Ember, you’re unbelievable. Acting first and thinking later isn’t bravery, it’s a terrible habit.” I stood and turned in a slow circle, as if proof could calm her. “Nothing went wrong. I’m fine. See? That curse was annoying, sure, but it wasn’t strong enough to hurt me.”

"You're pushing your luck, Lyra. Don't think for a second that I won't assert my dominance over you. You’re nothing” But instead of cowering, Lyra met my gaze head-on, her eyes never leaving mine. "Try it, Alpha. See how far it gets you." I was taken aback by her bravery, my anger momentarily replaced by a twisted sense of surprise. She was not afraid of me, and it was... intriguing. A small, approving smirk crept onto my face. "You know, Lyra," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm, "I think I like your spirit. You're the first person in a long time who's dared to stand up to me."

That is a good spirit and I admire her more for her bravery. But in that situation, that was all she was going to get. BRAVERY Just bravery… Nothing more than that without proper help from one of the same capabilities as prince Valdis. Which was the reason why I nominated myself to help her out. I can’t see a damsel in distress and not help her out. It is against my doctrine, beliefs, and personality. Though I question myself when I have those or concern myself in a business that doesn’t have any relation to me, most especially not this sorry-ass-of-a-prince.
