I look at my mother, then at the menu. Root Beer, 7-up, Shirley Temple, Sprite, Iced Tea. So many options. I look at mother again, and she's painfully silent. Will she let me choose? Meredith pushed the thought out of her mind and spooned up the whipped cream. She found that it was not just whipped cream but it looked to be a torte. She tasted each part individually. The whipped cream was infused with a vanilla vodka of some kind. The next layer was a butter cake soaked in a limoncello. She knew her father preferred Volare’s limoncello.
