--- Neon lights from the city flickered through the slats of the blinds, casting long, narrow bars of light across the floor. The main lights were off. The floor lamp in the corner was dimmed to its lowest setting. It was like a filter had been placed over the night, making the atmosphere thick with a perfect, heavy tension. The light sliced diagonally through the room, carving the scene into sharp halves of brilliance and shadow. The lampshade swayed slightly, sending ripples of light across the walls like water. On the bright side, my high heels dangled in mid air, swaying like a moon that was about to fall.

In fact, it could fit an adult. At the center of the room hung a dazzling crystal chandelier. Two new bedside lamps had been added as well. They were covered with bud-shaped lamp shades, and at the foot of the bed stood two round floor lamps pressed against the wall. If one ignored the carpets, murals, and various decorative dolls and vases, and looked only at the lights, their abstract arrangement seemed to form the shape of a seated person. My bed and the doll's bed were positioned in the middle. Its bed was placed horizontally, facing the head of my bed.

Ronan Mansion** The chandelier's harsh glow pierced the shadows of Ronan's sitting room, illuminating the bar where he stood, a tumbler of whiskey clutched in his tattooed hand. The mansion's dark aesthetic gleaming black marble floors, walls adorned with shadowed displays of antique blades, and leather furniture that whispered of restrained power contrasted sharply with the bright lights overhead.

Black as the darkest night hair against a crisp linen pillow, brown skin against a blindingly white sheet, and tiger’s eyes burning with deliberate cruelty and triumph into hers. In horrified rejection of the imagery that had sprung into her mind, Lara Anderson shuddered violently, dimly aware that she was still in the grip of severe shock. Abruptly, she was dredged from her turmoil by the insistent shrill of the telephone in the hall. Reluctantly she answered the summons, carefully shutting the lounge door behind her so that her father was not disturbed.

A dark wooden coffee table stood between the sofas, long, thin and polished to a high sheen. On the back wall were two dark wooden doors and between them was a small wet bar with etched mirrored shelves holding wine glasses and goblets. The walls had several sconce lights of antique brass that looked like bouquets of lilies, the light shades were frosted off-white glass with the tips a dark yellow resembling peddles. The windows were covered by cream-colored shades that had been opened about three inches, allowing the glow from the flood lights to filter through.

Because I am right here beside her. I caught a glimpse of the moon lamp placed on top of the table near the bed. The lamp produces a dimmed yellow light in one part of the room. The light is not too much but just enough for me to see their faces in the dark. I observed how the yellow light softly shines alone in one corner of the dark room.

The room was shrouded in darkness, the heavy curtains drawn tightly shut, blocking any sliver of light from the outside world. The only source of illumination was a single dim lamp perched on the edge of the heavy wooden desk. Its soft glow created dancing shadows on the walls, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the room.

It’s going to have a kind of cosy, cottage vibe going on. We went to a flea market the other week and I managed to find some vases that would fit in with the scheme and the best thing, a retro standing lamp. One of those ones that are stainless steel and curve over with a big stainless steel dome light head. It’s an original and I got it for under forty dollars. It was a bargain.

An idea came to her. She got up and limped over to her dresser. “Rave, would you bring the candle over here?” she asked. Rave did as she requested. By the light of the candle, she unscrewed and removed the lampshade from the small lamp on the dresser. She was going to try using the unshielded light bulb for her visual, and she wanted to see the bulb light up. When the shade was off, she turned toward Rave and blew out the candle. The room became very dim.
