She starts to move away— Then she goes rigid, her head whipping around. I turn to follow her gaze. Steele is sprinting toward us. He looks manic. Possessed. His eyes are blazing, and he’s cradling his torso in a way that makes me think he’s seriously injured, but he’s running full tilt.

Cameo asked from behind me as I stepped into the air-conditioned space. I ignored him. My fingers drifted lazily over the weapons. Metal kissing my skin, while one name burned through my mind. When I was alone, I picked the flick blade with serrated edges. Unsheathed it and ran my thumb along the ridges, feeling every bite of it. A dark smile curled on my face.

“Do... do you have an appointment, sir?” I leaned forward slightly, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “Tell him Adrian Steele is here. I guarantee he won’t need an appointment.” Her eyes widened as recognition dawned. She fumbled with the phone, her trembling fingers dialing. “Mr. Rivera’s office, please,” she said, her voice quivering. After a short pause, she added hastily, “Mr. Rivera, Mr. Adrian Steele is here to…” She didn’t finish the sentence before nodding furiously. “Yes, sir. Right away.”

Steele looks dangerous but Stan looks more wicked. "Nothing is yours here, Stan." "Try me." Steele's eyes turned to glowing gold. In just a second, he managed to grab Stan out of the car and throw him somewhere. It happened too fast, my jaw dropped in shock. I thought Stan would at least be injured because of the violent throw, but the next second, he was up and smiling at Steele. He was so fast and managed to push Steele in front of the car that smashed the car's hood. It was like they were fighting at the speed of light. I could hardly see what was happening.

I wanted to know if he felt the weight of our people as I did. He shook his head. My father jumped into the conversation and explained that they had run every test possible and although Friedrich seemed to have the same strength I had, there was no blood link like I had to our people. He had none of the anger, and Fynn added that since Friedrich met Melissa, his temper seemed to have calmed down a lot.
