I was beginning to think that this castle was cursed and Rayne was never meant to have a quiet life in that place. Thirty minutes later, Evelyn walked out and assured me that Rayne was stable and I did not need to worry, she just needed to stay under medical care for a couple of days then she could be transferred to her room and continue her recovery there. She would most probably need three weeks to get back to her normal self. Olivia walked out after a while and said what Evelyn told me before. I was really worried about Rayne, but I did my best to have control over myself.

“Sir York, let me handle this. Irene went to the main hall for a few minutes before coming back. “They said that they’ll be back soon, Sir York.” The medical staff did not come after ten minutes. Before Harvey could say anything, Irene went away again. She did the exact same thing thrice. A medical staff finally walked over after that. Rayne walked toward the emergency room while she spoke with an annoyed look. “Don’t you see that we’re asking for autographs?

“I’m the closest thing she has right now.” The paramedic sighed. “Follow in your car. Velmore General, trauma bay three. We’ll be there in eight minutes.” The ambulance doors slammed. Lights flared. Sirens wailed again as it tore away. Ryan and Lyn sprinted to his car. He drove like the night itself was chasing them. Lyn sat rigid in the passenger seat, her knuckles white around her phone. “She’s going to be okay,” Ryan said. It sounded more like a command than comfort.

The burn from the exhaust pipe was going to need real medical attention, but I could at least stabilize him. “My phone…” Ray gasped. “In my jacket. Call ambulance…” “Already on it.” I’d pulled my own phone out, dialing 911. Gave them our location, described the injuries. They said ten minutes. “You’re going to be okay,” I told Ray, my hands still applying pressure to the wound. “Ambulance is coming. Just stay with me.” “Thank you,” he breathed. “Thought I was going to die here…” “Not on my watch.”

Her body isn't healing up like we've noticed before, and we believe it's connected to her pregnancy.” Again, the mention of Rayne's pregnancy sent an arrow straight to my heart. “So what can be done? How do we move ahead with this?” “Her blood pressure is too low, and because of where her wound is, we can only work towards solving one issue at a time. It's either her or the baby.” I didn't even have to think too long. “Rayne. Do whatever you can to save her. Please.” As much as it tore my heart to make such a decision, a child would come again.
