What she said next shocked Morticia. "That's great news. I hope she doesn’t recover." After her words, Valerie returned her gaze to her phone. "That’s so cruel. Why do you hate her so much?" Morticia couldn't help but ask. "Why do you want to know?" "Because she's my brother's girlfriend, and she seems nice," Morticia replied. "Yeah, she’s the nicest person on earth," sarcasm laced in Valerie's voice. Morticia shook her head and pulled out her diary, writing about her experiences—her moments with Jamie, and how they shared their second kiss.

“We found out how we can help, but it’s going to take all of us,” Valerie kept her eyes closed as sweat beaded at her forehead, a few baby hairs slicked to her temples, and she only quietly hummed in response. I wanted to cry for her, for her pain and suffering that I feel like we had caused, especially me; I was the first mate she had met and due to me taking it slow with the mate bond, now she’s double suffering. Everett had explained to Valerie what Shane had explained to us, and she nodded when Everett had asked if it was okay for us to complete the mating bond that way and Valerie nodded once again - it was odd to see my brother so soft with someone.

Wesley’s POV Just as I had suspected, Valerie was the exact girl Tyler and father had been looking for. I had no idea how I was able to figure that out considering the fact she used her glamour to hide her face from every other person, but I was quite smart and could easily see beyond the facade. I went through those files and saw everything father had about her, I realized April’s real name was Arya but Valerie did not change hers. Quite risky for her, but I guess she thought the glamour was enough to keep them safe. Besides, Valerie was quite a popular name and since we have some hybrids living in the pack with us, it wouldn’t be easy to notice her.

The door clicks shut, leaving me alone with my mate, a mountain of guilt, and the distinct realization that surviving the witch’s gorge was definitely the easy part of this journey.

Valerie's POV When I saw the name flashing on my screen, I realized it was a call from my best friend, Constance. The moment I picked up, her excited voice filled the line. "Valerie! So? Has Aaron heard the news yet? Was he thrilled? When are you two announcing that the Black Shadow Pack finally has its Alpha heir? I must be the first to send my congratulations!" Her joy was genuine. I could hear it in every word. But reality had already dealt me a merciless blow.

I heard a familiar voice quiz beside me, and turning my gaze at him, I saw the Alpha, Heather, standing by his door, with arms folded as he gave his eyes a nice watch. I ignored his question and kept running after Valerie, running so swiftly so that I would have a grip over her before Killian succeeded in doing so. Something terrible happened just as Valerie was about to step out of the gate; she slumped mysteriously after the light crackling of lightning, and she instantly became unconscious. I had a better edge to get to her first since I was only a few miles away, while Killian kept struggling to keep up with the large gap between us. I would spoon-feed her myself if that was what it took to make her better. In front of me, Summer had just ascended the stairs. Her face registered her shock at seeing me carry Valeria. "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" Summer demanded in a shrill voice. "Put her down immediately, Dimitri!"
