he whispered, leaning closer until his breath brushed her ear, “I’ll make sure you never get the chance to open that pretty mouth again.”
Her stomach dropped.
Something flickered in his eyes, gold dilating pupils, and when he smiled, she caught a glimpse of fangs that hadn’t been there before.
“W-what are you?” she whispered, her voice trembling despite herself.
He tilted his head slightly, like he was amused by the question.
“Someone who doesn’t give second warnings.”
And in a blink, he was gone.
Vanished.
Valerie stood frozen for a long second, staring at the empty space where he’d been. Then she let out a shaky breath and stumbled backward until she hit the bed, collapsing onto it.
