** Ian The first vamp becomes visible shortly after darkfall. It sidles out onto the wide stone balcony that looks over the lake, leaning against the polished balustrade and snapping its fingers imperiously at the patrolling humans. A few minutes later, a feeder human is brought out, trembling and stumbling in her coerced haze directly into the vampire’s arms. It buries its fang teeth in her neck and the victim collapses against its cold undead body.

“Better?” Feeling numb, she nodded. “How did you do that?” “I’m a psychic vampire. I feed on emotions, but feelings like fear have a bitter aftertaste and leave a cloud to dispel.” She wanted to call him insane, but she was feeling the effects of whatever he had done to her, and having witnessed it with her own eyes, it was growing harder to disbelieve their claims. “I thought vampires drank blood and had fangs?” He shrugged. “I can do that, but I get greater sustenance from emotional feeding than drinking blood.”

"The barn. Alright. That doesn't sound too bad. Tell me, what animal am I working with? A goat? Sheep? or a cow?" The dhampire tsked at her ignorance, "not that kind of barn. Here, feeders are placed in a place called 'the barn'." "Wait. Hold up, feeders? As in human blood bags for vampires?!" She exclaimed. "Yes. If you're kept as a feeder, it'll not only lead to your eventual demise, it also tampers with your sanity. Even powerful hunters cannot bear the bite of an elder vampire." It was a fate far worse than death for any hunter.

the pet master responded, looking very pleased with himself, "It was quite entertaining really. Shut her up nice and quick." The man's brow furrowed, but only for a second. "Age?" he asked. My eyes widened in surprise. He was actually considering buying me. "Seventeen." "Who was her breeder?" he followed up. Breeders. The vampires who took in the slaves and pets that couldn't perform their duties. The ones that forced them to conceive a few children before taking the child and killing the parents for their blood. The whole process made me want to curl up in a ball and cry.

I mutter the thought out loud. "I'm not a part of the pack." Kane groans and pinches the bridge of his nose. Then, he points his finger in the direction of the hideous creature. "If there's one thing you should really fear, Selena, it's the one that tried to drag you across the border. Congratulations, you've met the one and only bleeder." "Bleeder?" The heck is that? "Bleeder is the only creature who's built to survive by feeding on humans, and humans only. If being eaten alive doesn't sound bad, imagine being eaten by a spider-vampire hybrid type of shit. That's a damn bleeder."

She took a deep inhale tensely. My eyes spoke to her and demanded her to continue, at that time the atmosphere gets tenser. “I need an assistant and a feeder” She declared. “What, a feeder?” My eyebrow rose as I stared at her. “Please don’t be offended… It’s rare to be as close as this to human for me, I just don’t want another vampire to get you in their grasp” She explained, gulping in tension because she was afraid to offend me. “Don’t worry, I feed two times a week” She said. “I will not drain your blood or hurt you” Lane flashed a toothy smile.

This pull is strange, scary but amazing. The problem now is, how do I keep the most stubborn Vampire to ever exist safe without having a fight with her?

“I fed early tonight. It threw me off.” I looked at him. “Explain it to me,” I said. He looked at her. “Feeding,” I added. “Like, how does it work? Do you…kill people?” “No, never,” he said. The room fell quiet as he collected his thoughts. “Like everything in the vampire race, it’s complicated,” he said. “It depends on the type of vampire you are, and the coven you belong to. In my case, I only feed on animals. Deer, mostly. They are overpopulated, anyway, and humans hunt them, too—and not even to eat.”

“But at least I used my ability to help you, so it wasn’t all for nothing.” I was about to say something when I saw the creature walking toward us. I drew my gun and fired, hitting it square in the head. Alexander moved toward the creature, studying it. I remembered the Empress’s words: ‘They are like walking corpses, but with no eyes. While vampires feed on blood, they feed on flesh. They don’t think, feel, or see. They smell—they detect life by scent, and they feed on anything with a heartbeat. Their sole purpose is to kill.’

she explained as we traversed down the metal staircase. My eyes widened at the glass door refrigerator filled with bags of what I assumed was blood. “Is that blood?” I questioned her as I gestured toward the refrigerator. Nodding, she said, “Yeah, we received a large shipment from our supplier, Victor.” Furrowing my brow I cursed internally. “Then why do the vampires collect blood slaves?” Grinning sardonically, she explained, “The older vampires prefer fresh, warm blood while the youngbloods or newly turned are fed the bagged blood. Victor sends a fresh supply once a month for us.”
