It was because time decided to slow down the second time I twirled her, giving my body time to overtake my mind once again and decide that I was going to dip her. It was because of how she gracefully hooked her hands behind my neck, like she was the master of an art that she had never tried before. And that smile. That damn smile she gave me. That damn perfect smile. That's where I lost it. I let out a deep sigh, turning the water down to its coolest temperature. I've been on this earth for over four centuries and never have I once felt something like that in regards to someone else. Vampires are greedy creatures. We see something that we want and we take it. That's just how we work.

Melia burst out laughing. "You're sweet, really," she said, still laughing. "I can see why I didn't bite your collarbone." "You're, oh my God," he shouted out of nowhere, standing up and backing away. Melia stood up straight again and faced him. "What am I?" "You are... unbelievable!" he exclaimed, and it seemed that everything he had been feeling just a few minutes ago faded away to a feeling of awe. "Biting, 38-degree food, hell, aura," he said to himself, connecting the dots. "Yes, Orleans, I am a vampire."

While she was looking for answers to her questions, something caught her eye. "A black cape? Long-sleeved white shirt? And a red bow?” Cyrille's eyes begin to widen. "This is how a vampire dresses in classic Dracula films!" she exclaimed. “Oh my—” She couldn't finish her words and immediately covered her mouth to keep from shouting. She was overjoyed with the mixed emotions she was experiencing at the time, and she couldn't believe that after days of fruitless hunting, she'd have the good fortune to meet a vampire.

This pull is strange, scary but amazing. The problem now is, how do I keep the most stubborn Vampire to ever exist safe without having a fight with her?

A huge mistake, because now she was lost. “I’m not going to hurt you,” he whispered. Even his voice pierced her skin, causing her to shiver. He grabbed her shaking hands and placed them over his beating heart. It was only after she got over the fact her hands were touching his smooth pectorals that she felt something odd. There was a slow rhythm, almost like his heart was failing. “Your heart beat is” “The human organs are slowly being consumed by the vampire’s hunger,” he interrupted, releasing her hands and standing up.

I change my stance, ready to strike when out of nowhere vampires jump from the windows above, something dark flies in front of me, “Blaze!” I watch the Vampire grin with satisfaction, holding Blaze’s heart in his hands before crushing it. Rage so hot bursts through my veins, I don’t know how I got in front of the vampire so quickly, but one minute he’s six feet in front of me and the next I have his own heart in my hands, his eyes widen as he stares at his own heart before his body slowly turns to ash. Sally is sitting next to Blaze, holding his head, “He’s dead.” She says, staring up at me, “I’m sorry.”

The vampire clutched at his chest as his heart stuttered, but he made no attempt to fight the order, so powerful was that voice. Blenda could scarcely take her eyes from her lifemate's twin; she, too, was caught in the spell of his power, mesmerized by the true beauty of his voice. It was only when he plunged his fist deep within the cavity of the vampire's chest and extracted the heart, when lightning slammed to earth in a jagged bolt of blue white and incinerated the already dead organ and its host, that she managed to jerk herself awake, once again aware of her own very precarious situation.

The vampire snarled at me, baring his teeth, but I just tilted my head lightly, staring at him blankly. I guess he sensed that we were about to do something to him. He became agitated under my gaze, but they had sedated him heavily. I could hear his breathing, and under that rage, a very faint sound of his half-dead heart. Vampires don’t have a living heart, but a werewolf is dead the second his heart dies. So, whoever modified them, he put their hearts in between the two terms—dead and alive. “I have been studying them for more than fifteen years, Madeline. This is the most modified version of what they were in the past.” Ralph told me in a serious tone.

Literally and figuratively. Not many things can heal a wound to a vampire's heart. Despite it being fucking useless just sitting there in our chests, not pumping blood, it's still a fatal shot to hit it. That, along with ripping our heads clean from our bodies or burning us, are the only ways to kill us. Stab us in the kidneys or liver, and we heal within the hour, but the heart or the head? Done deal. And her mark healed a wound to my heart; a dagger plunged directly into the center of my useless heart. I met death; I felt its ice-cold caress over my body, and it didn't feel much different from her power flooding into me from her mark.

I said, laughing disdainfully, “I will take revenge on you, tear you to pieces!” Rowan grinned, saying mockingly, “I look forward to your return, your majesty!” As soon as his words fell off his mouth, his arm swiftly and accurately pierced my chest, precisely digging out my heart. Blooms of blood appeared on the bed sheet, like some kind of cruel artwork. “Moon Goddess, please give me a chance to be reborn!” I silently pleaded, just before my heart was harvested. At this moment, the dazzling full moon suddenly emitted a blinding white light.
