I let out another gasp as the realisation of who I was with dawned on me. He was a vampire! Oh my goodness! Was this real? I pinched my cheeks hard so I could wake up from whatever dream I was in. But I was awake. Right in front of a vampire who gasped for breath. I stared at him as my bottom lip trembled. Watching him gasp for air like that perturbed me. Was he dying? According to the movies I'd watched, vampires were immortal beings who only got killed by the sun or some poisonous plant named vervain.

"It was never consistent, always sporadic and unexpected." Dr. Scott was deep in thought. He tapped his fingers on the arm of his chair while he considered what I said. "Elizabeth, vampires, like werewolves, have unique talents. Not the same ones, mind you, but as effective. Vampires, in addition to their physical prowess, may enter a person's mind. If they are feeling merciful, they may blot off what is going on. They mostly employ it to increase dread since the victim's bodily response to anxiety affects how they taste."
