A black SUV barreled toward us, tires screeching against the wet pavement. Damien shouted, grabbing me just as the vehicle swerved. The world spun, screams, rain, the blinding glare of headlights, then the sound of metal slamming into glass. And then, silence. I blinked through the rain, vision blurring, ears ringing.
