Nobody notices, huddles in an embrace with this storm, with the idea that one must continue because it would be impossible to stop.
But then, for a moment, she does stop. Just long enough to adjust the packages in her arms, just long enough to tilt her face upward. The cold droplets sting, sharp and real, grounding her. The city rushes on around her, unmindful. But the rain—somehow, the rain understands.
Finally, she reaches the ornate gate of the village where the Lui mansion stands tall. Just as she was struggling to open the gate, a guard came to her rescue, holding the enormous iron grill open for her.
