I have no idea. The books were old, some pages are rotten and smell like mushrooms in a wet forest. I smiled when I realized that these books were precious. And they were all about my kind, the Helsings. For hours, all I did was read and get drowned in these pile of books. I have never been flooded with knowledge unlike before. The more I got absorbed into the pages, the more this hatred towards the corrupted vampires grew. It was eye-opening. Written on the page was,

Then, she heard the soft click of the door as Eva pulled it shut. Bookshelves lined one wall behind the huge rosewood desk. There were books of all shapes and sizes, but most of them were old, part of Dante's collection. The rest of the walls were adorned with portraits which Flora did not want to look at. Flora noted the absence of any photographs at the desk or, come to think of it, anywhere in the mansion. There were only these strange portraits who could not be related to Dante and whose presence bothered Flora as she cleaned the room.

"Everything in here might be haunted." "Yeah, but this one's got weird energy." She sliced the tape and flipped the flaps open. A mix of hardcovers and leather - bound journals, yellowed at the edges. One smelled like cloves and mildew. Another had pages stuck together with something she didn't want to name. She set them aside, one by one, cataloging quietly. Piper — cat, queen, bookstore menace — stalked over the counter like she owned it and plopped herself on the pile.

The people at the inn will notice that something is wrong. I understood what it meant when I saw Ryson drinking blood from that maid. Feeding on humans. On weak people. I had read too many books, watched too many movies, heard too many stories about myths and legends, liked fiction very much. Where humans and vampires didn't get along. Most stories ended in romance, hate, war and death. I wondered how my story will be like seeing that my life is now twisted with these creatures. Vampires. Just saying the name creeps me out. Chills running up and down my spine like waves on the sea.

I turned the light back on. The scream that tore from my lungs wasn't human. The attic was packed. Hundreds of them. Not just my collection, but things that had crawled out from the eaves, from the crawlspaces, all wearing the faces of dolls I had never seen. They were all staring at the light, their pupils shrinking in unison, a sea of black dots vanishing into porcelain voids. They didn't retreat this time. They flinched, but they kept coming. "Don't look," a voice whispered from directly behind my ear. It sounded like Lady Genevieve. "It hurts to look."

It was a fate far worse than death for any hunter. In the next minute, she rushed over to where he'd been spotted, pulling the huge mahogany doors that revealed a library. She gasped, mouth wide open, she marveled at the room that held several antiquities and books that spiralled from the bottom to the top in a fancy shelf-like staircase. She walked over to the shelves, running her hand through the books stacked neatly, captivated by the breathtaking ambience she found herself forgetting the reason why she'd come in the first place, picking one that had ‘Medieval vampires and their bane’ as the title.

Nine remained. And one of them? Was crossed out by someone else. LOCATION: EDGE OF THE OLD CITY – ABANDONED LIBRARY TIME: 8:33 a.m. The books here were rotting. Histories no one wanted. Bloodlines no one respected. Solene moved through them like a shadow without a past because the stories left inside these walls were the kind that erased people like her. She knelt in the back corner. Pulled a volume from the stone shelf. Dust covered the title:

She raised her hand and with her index finger she brushed the books, reading their titles. There were some that said "satanic pacts" others like "the call of the devil" "the forest and its hidden side" "small town legends" "werewolves and the full moon" and the last one said "Wisconsin Cases". Camila took out that last one, the book was big, it had a red cover with the image of the town itself. But that image was in black and white, as if it was taken years ago.

I place it on the table beside me and reach for the next. ‘Vampyres or Vampires? – An encyclopaedia of fact, fiction and food sources.’ The irony of the blood red lettering and dry humour of the title make me chuckle in spite of the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. I move to place the heavy book on top of it’s witchy companion and my fingers tingle as they brush something on the back. “What have we here?” yes, I talk to myself on occasion.

I guess she's still our friend after all. "I have something to tell you." I'm shocked. Rhea said more than three words to me. I'm getting kinda scared, is this about Sarah? "Sure, come in and have a seat." She closed the door behind her and came in. I put down the books in my hand and sat in front of her. I stared at her as if trying to collect information from a book, I was trying to guess what she wanted to say. She rubbed her palms together and looked me straight in the eye. Her seriousness is scaring the shit out of me but I'm trying to keep my cool, the future king of a vampire kingdom can not afford to be scared of a serious conversation.
