My heart skipped. I moved closer, scanning the titles until one name leapt out at me like a struck nerve. Dead Viles… The moment I read it, my stomach twisted to nausea. I pulled the text free and opened it, my fingers trembling despite myself. Unlike Lunareeth, this book was filled with dense writing, diagrams etched in faded ink, and warning seals pressed into the margins. Dead Viles. A deadly, ancient poison. I started reading about it, and the more I read, the more my heart shuddered with a cold chill…

It was the scent of old, crumbling paper, leather binding, and dust. I reached inside and pulled out the contents. It was a small stack of three books. The leather covers were worn at the edges, the gold foil lettering faded to a dull yellow. I traced the title of the top volume with a trembling thumb. It was an old Italian translation of classic poetry—the exact edition I used to hide in the library rafters of the main Ricaforte estate to read when the world became too loud. The second book still had a tiny, faded pencil mark on page forty-two, where I had accidentally folded the corner years ago.

But then, why were all her belongings still here? She stepped toward the shelves and ran an index finger horizontally across the spine of each book, noting the authors. Stephen King. Paul Tremblay. Lauren Beukes. All horror, violence, and morbid. Certainly not what Jade preferred to read. The magazines held a different texture, they were smooth but thinner, and her fingertip snagged every crevice. She plucked a random one out and examined the cover. Vogue. Flipping through the magazine, she noted several of the corners were folded as a bookmark. She glanced over the articles on those pages: Interviews with influential people, food and drink reviews, and beauty products.

she retorted. "Oh, please. Her life isn't at stake here. But yours is." I took the drenched books out of the bag and tossed them on the coffee table. They had a particular smell to them. I picked one up and examined it. It seemed to be bound by animal skin. The paper used was papyrus and the ink used was... I took a closer look and then took a whiff. Blood. There was no doubt that these books were invaluable. She walked closer to them and I saw fear slither into her eyes the moment she read the titles. "He knows."

Mesmerised, I walk inside and Sebastian turns a small light on over a shelf. There are a lot of DVDs. A whole shelf. The shelf is seven feet long and the whole shelf is filled with hundreds of DVDs. These are vintage formatted decades-old horror films. I don't think there are a lot of women who will go gaga over a shelf full of horror movies but my heart dances with joy. I walk to the shelf. He's standing beside it with a big smile on his face. I trace my hand vertically on the DVDs. "Oh, my God!" I exclaim. "Are these real?"

And proved themselves wrong. I slipped into the restricted section. Dust and iron. Blood dried so long it had become architecture. My hand skimmed spines untouched for centuries. The Binding of the Abyss. The Vessel's Sacrifice. The Law of the Shadow-Bride. I pulled the last one free. Leather-bound. Claw-marked cover. I opened it - pages yellow, brittle, the smell of a mouth sealed for decades. "Looking to stay in control, or lose it entirely?" I didn't flinch. Didn't stop reading.

Seconds later, Shandra is already a little better, drying her eyes and sniffling a little. "Pretend that never happened." The two men shrug. Doing a bit of suspense, the girl with fair skin and dark hair opens the box. Although they are stored in a dirty, dusty place, the two books look perfectly clean, although obviously aged. The smell of leather and old paper reaches the nostrils of all three, especially those of the demons. Sam picks up the two books, paying attention to the covers and their weight. Then he smiles grimly at Shandra. "Apparently, little witch, you are either blessed by the gods, or cursed by all the terrible beings in this world."

I apologize that this book is really short with less than 30k words in all. I plan to edit it at some point and make it better. I figured that a really long Horror book might be less interesting and would just seem drawn out. I've not read a lot of them but I watch horror movies so I wrote this like I would picture an Horror movie. I appreciate all those who stuck with me and read Reincarnation regardless. Thank you all.
