The Wolf Hunter's Daughter
He handed it to me; a tiny, sleeping form.
“Oh! What is this?” I whispered, holding it carefully. At first, I thought it was a puppy, but then, why would he have a dog for a pet?
“It's a fox cub. Would you like to care for it?”
Its dark blue eyes flickered open, a tiny pink yawn revealing needle-sharp teeth.
“Oh, my…” I held it close, feeling its velvet fur against my skin, its tiny body trembling. “You're giving it to me?”
“Yes. The vixen is dead. I found it in a cave.” His gray eyes stared into mine. “It needs someone to care for it. There are wild wolves out there. It would never survive alone.”
