One Reckless Kiss
The ringing stopped instantly, relief barely formed before the call connected, lifting the screen again as silence flooded the speaker.
Jayden's breath hitched. “I didn't…” he spluttered. “I didn't pick…”
A voice spoke from the other end, low, calm and amused. “So you can still defend him.”
Jayden's entire body went rigid as his eyes moved faster than his brain registered.
The voice slid through the phone like ice along his spine.
“No….” Jayden scrambled to his feet, holding the door for support. “Who are you?”
A quiet chuckle answered him. “I wondered how long it would take,” the man said. “You may call me Black.”
