I looked down to see a little girl clinging to me like I might disappear at any moment. This had to be Emery. Emmette’s soft chuckle only confirmed it. He reached out to her, but she ignored him completely, tightening her grip around me instead. “You’re back,” she said in a tiny, adorable voice. “Now, Emery… you know we’ve talked about this,” Emmette said, squatting down and opening his arms, trying to coax her into a warm embrace hopefully to get her off me. “It’s okay, Emmette,” I said, gently waving him off.

She enveloped me, her warmth wrapping around me like a protective cocoon, a stark contrast to the coldness that had settled deep in my bones. “Oh sweetheart,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion, pulling me close and rocking me gently, like a distraught child. I can barely breathe, light fading as she saps my energy, and yet I hold on to her arm and her chest with everything I have, as she does me. Repeating, repeating, and chanting without breaking our gaze, until my lavender glow not only envelopes me and her but the entire arc around us.

Aurora’s POV The silence between Ember and me stretched like a taut string, one that could snap with the smallest tug. She was still holding my hand, her thumb tracing steady circles against my skin, like she could anchor me with nothing but touch. Her words echoed in the air, soft but firm: “Everything’s going to be alright. I’ll be with you every step of the way.” Normally, those promises calmed me. Tonight, they only made my chest ache.

I gently wrap my arm around Emily's waist and guide her away from the crowd, seeking solace and comforts on the balcony just outside the glass doors of the event. The night wind is cold against our skin, helping me cool, my anger. It does not, though, help Emily calm down at all. She wears a scowl on her face and I can't help but smile at the site, my love for her overwhelming me. Doesn't she know that she owns me? It doesn't she know that I have dedicated my love and life to her? That I am willing to walk through the fires of hell and suffer the torment of life just so I can see that smile on her face, to wake up beside her in bed?

“I knew you’d love it.” And he pulled me into his arms again, holding me close under the light of the Blood Moon.

He really does care about her.

Still, questions linger about what passed between them. Emily's scent is distressed as she approaches me. Gently I draw her into my arms, smoothing her hair. "Are you alright, little moon?" She nods against my chest. "I'm fine. Just dealing with a nuisance from my past." I consider pressing for details. But she's clearly upset. I decided that answers can wait for now. "Don't worry about him any longer," I assure her. "You're mine now. I won't let anyone bother you again." Emily tenses slightly at the possessive declaration. But she doesn't object, letting me continue holding her.

As she clung to me, it was as though she was holding onto a lifeline in a turbulent sea of emotions. And so, we remained locked in that poignant embrace, a silent understanding passing between us.
