Before I could speak, the doors opened wide. A man stepped in. Tall, broad shoulders, his cloak frayed from travel. Scars crossed his arms, his jaw heavy with age and exile. The guards bristled, but he raised his hand slow. “I ask no fight,” he said, his voice deep and raw. “I am Magnus. Once Alpha of Redfang. Cast out, betrayed. I seek shelter… and truth.” Gasps spread. Magnus. A name I had heard only in whispers, a wolf cursed for war crimes long past. Why here? Why now?

"When a wolf is banished from his or her pack, he or she is called a rogue. Magnus, is the second son of a powerful Alpha, whose territory is situated near the boundaries of Idaho and Washington State. He challenged his older brother, Lucas, for the right to become Alpha." "You're Levi, aren't you?" Magnus smirked, but there was no humor in it. "No. I'm Magnus — Levi's wolf." Micha blinked, startled. "Levi's... wolf?" Magnus nodded. "Our bloodline is ancient. Stronger than most. I can take control when I want — swap places with him." "That explains your eyes," Micha whispered. "Levi's are brown." "Exactly." Magnus's tone softened for the first time. "He's still inside me — trapped in the same space I once was. Now he knows how it feels to be silenced."

He was terrified of the situation, but he wasn't hiding guilt. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Kael’s heart was slightly elevated, but her blood smelled entirely of ozone and steel. Pure warrior. No deception. Thump-thump-thump. Elder Vance was furious, his blood pressure spiking, his scent thick with arrogant indignation. But beneath the arrogance, there was no rot. I shifted my glowing silver gaze to the High Warlock. His name was Magnus. He was ancient, his skin like yellowed parchment pulled tight over brittle bones. He stood perfectly still, his hands tucked neatly into the wide sleeves of his crimson robes. His face was a mask of serene, magical detachment.

If he hadn't been standing right next to me, I have no doubt the she-wolves would have been circling him like a kill. He’s the reason I’m here, I reminded myself. Declan was a wolf who moved mountains. I was just fortunate he’d decided to drag me up the peaks with him. "I’d like you both to meet my nephew, Marcus Hale," Magnus said, gesturing to the man at his side. "He’s a recent transfer to the Citadel. Officially, he’s our Warden of Public Integrity, but that’s just a high-blood way of saying he handles our PR and keeps the pack’s reputation from tarnish."

" I moved forward and asked. Though I had few options, I wasn't sure if I trusted him. "I want your confidence," Magnus declared. Additionally, I need your assistance in creating a weapon. A weapon capable of destroying Azrak I looked at Kane, my thoughts whirling. "What sort of weapon is it?" Magnus described it as "a weapon that channels the energy of the earth itself." "It will have the ability to eliminate Azrak's shadow creatures and finally vanquish him." "Is it secure?" With a sinking heart, I asked. “What if it’s too much? What if it makes things worse?”

"Magnus is arrested but his operation isn't dismantled. His people had twelve hours. They could have accessed the supply chain." "We sweep the vehicle," Rafe said immediately. "We sweep everything. The gear, the fuel, every component Juno hasn't personally handled since last night." I paused. "And we need to know who else is on the grid. Which racers are Magnus loyalists." Rafe pulled up the entry list on his tablet and turned it toward me. Twelve racers. I knew most of them. Three from Blackclaw—my former pack—who would follow Magnus's standing orders without question. Two from the Stoneback pack whose alpha had Council ties. One independent I didn't recognize.

He was here. The invisible thread between us pulled so hard my knees nearly buckled. He had come.. come here. For me? The realization hit harder than I expected. Just then—Magnus appeared beside us, fully dressed in red-and-gold battle armor. He was in pure Alpha mode now. He wasn’t that friendly uncle from earlier. He looked locked on and focused. “Is it them?” I asked though I knew my answer already.. “Yes.” He nodded sharply. “Stay behind me..till this is over.”

He owned several, if not almost all of the businesses in Silver Crest. Our eyes met from where I sat. His gaze was cold and piercing the moment we made eye contact but is eyes did not linger on mine for more than mere seconds before he placed his focus back on Magnus. “State your name and business,” Mason said to Magnus. “I am Magnus Steele, Sigma and overseer of the Rejected,” he began. A curious murmur filled the room. I knew it was from the fact that Magnus revealed himself as a Sigma. The idea of a solitary werewolf was frowned upon in Silver Crest.

"You're up." The wizard stood, tossing one side of his cape over his shoulder. "As we all know Edge is a gargoyle of integrity. Of course some thought I should rule, but Edge will be a leader we can be proud of. He will keep the dirty outliers from destroying what we've built and make sure there is continued peace." He paused, allowing the crowd to cheer. They pounded their cups against the tabletops and flapped their wings in joy. "Even now, Edge is working to rid our realm of the Akuma and the darkness overtaking us. With him as our leader, we will be victorious!"
