She landed a gash across Kael’s shoulder — but Luna struck back with a beam of searing light that slammed her against a tree.
Breathing hard, the creature vanished into black mist.
“She’ll be back,” Kael said, blood dripping.
“And she’ll die next time,” Luna growled.
They both stood still for a moment, the adrenaline crashing into desire. Kael’s eyes darkened, nostrils flaring at the scent of Luna’s rage. She turned toward him slowly, lips parted, fire flickering in her gaze.
“Later,” she whispered.
He groaned.
