My lips peeled back into a snarl. “Shift,” I growled. The earth shook with cracking bones, flesh tearing, and snarls rising as my brother and I gave way to the beasts within. Chaos erupted from me, towering, raw muscle and claw. Beside me, Chad’s Cobalt rose just as massive, his black fur bristling like Chaos’s. The warriors followed, one by one, their roars splitting the dusk. The rogues poured from the treeline. I didn’t wait. My claws met the first wave with murderous fury, rending through flesh and bone. Their screams filled the clearing as my teeth sank into a throat, tearing it out in a spray of blood.

Without another word, he bolted toward the sound of the scream, disappearing into the burning ruins. I inhaled deeply, forcing my focus back to the battle. My claws had already formed, the familiar sting of power settling into my limbs. Every muscle in my body was primed for the fight. Then I saw them. A group of Forsaken warriors stalked through the smoke, their blackened armor blending with the shadows, their inhuman eyes glowing with eerie malice. One of them spotted me and grinned, baring jagged fangs. He was massive, taller than any werewolf I had ever seen, his presence radiating power.

Because any creature that soulless had nothing to lose. “He wants her.” He stated simply, lifting an arm to point straight at Kat. Snarls rippled through the warriors at the threat to their Luna but they were drowned out but the ferocious roars of their Alphas. “Well you can tell whoever the fuck he is that it will be a cold day in hell before anyone lays a hand on our Luna!” Reegan growled. “Then welcome to hell.” The other Alpha said in that same bland tone, as if he hadn’t just declared war. And true to his word, all hell broke loose.

The ground beneath us trembled in recognition. “We’re not just defending a place,” Elin said as she met me outside the Moon Hollow. “We’re defending a living force.” “I know,” I said softly. “But not everyone understands that yet.” Inside the Court, warriors from every allied clan sat in a wide circle. Seris stood first. “The Scourge are less than two days away,” she said. “They travel at night. No howls, no banners. Just silence and numbers.” “How do we fight shadows?” Elira muttered.

’ I heard in my head from Remmie as I saw another wolf drop at my feet with a hole right between my eyes. ‘Nice shot.’ I replied back, disregarding her statement. ‘Oh, don’t think for a minute that we are not going to be talking. I swear to all that is holy Cain.’ Remmie yelled at me. Just as I shut down my link to everyone, I saw the largest pack of wolves and dark warlocks shoot through the rubble of the wall. Before any of us could even prepare for an attack, the ground began to shake and the ground began to open as long black, brown snakes shot through the ground and began to pull the enemy down into the ground. Abel and I just looked at each other.

He quickly kissed her before turning to disembowel another warrior. Nox switched between shouting commands at the enemies, forcing them to fall on their own swords or turn against one another, and slaughtering them with blade, claws, and teeth. Succumbing to the tug in my gut, I tore the souls out of several warriors, their flesh rotting before my very eyes. Beneath the undercurrent of stink, there was another pungent scent. One I recognized instantly. “They’ve got rogues!” My words rippled down the bond as a collective roar pierced the air. The ground beneath our feet trembled. A wave of feral rogues poured into the compound, and the chaos increased tenfold.

I try stepping away only to be grabbed forcefully and yanked against the warrior, as bends closer his over cologned odor overwhelms my senses, as he growls lowly, "You may be a Luna but as a council warrior I still rank higher than you. I suggest you listen." A roar I would recognize anywhere breaks through the forest, shaking the world around me and making me pool into a puddle of desire. Suddenly, the wind shifts my nostrils filling with the most delectable scent, that I have craved for days. Scarlett feral as she thrashes around internally nearly impossible to control.
