I stared at him intently, waiting for him to speak. “Come and sit on the bed and I’ll explain”. He stood up holding out his hands for me. I put my hands in his and he gently pulled me up. We went out of the bathroom and sat down on the bed facing each other. I looked at him again waiting for him to explain. “What do you want to know?” he asked crossing his legs. “Pups?” I said looking at his face. “Pups are wolf kids, little kids before they have had their first change. Once they change, they are young wolves or just Weres, until they are named otherwise”

I saw a werewolf trying to wash its wound using the water from the pond, I immediately grabbed my spear but my eyes widened at what I saw. The werewolf is slowly transforming in a human form, in the form of a kid. I stay stilled, carefully watching how this little werewolf girl treats her wound. Making me realize that not all of those huge werewolves are adults, some of them are kids. I shake my head, making the thought go away. No matter how young or old werewolves are, they’re still ferocious. I was about to throw the small dart with poison when I heard someone running.

“Was that a howl? Can a pup howl?” The doctor’s expression shifted to shock. He leaned closer, adjusting his glasses. “Most werewolf pups don’t howl until they’re ten years old. But your child…” He paused, shaking his head in disbelief. “His bloodline is stronger than any Alpha’s I’ve ever seen. He may even awaken your inner wolf.” Leila blinked, stunned. “My… inner wolf?” The doctor handed her the pup’s scan, his hands trembling slightly. “Keep this safe. You must protect this child.”

With everything that happened right after my birthday, it was like time stood still in some ways, but passed by in a flash in others. Young werewolves are called pups and they become full adult wolves when they shift for the first time on their 17th birthday. Since I wasn’t exactly sure how old I was, I had no clue when that might happen. I felt as if it would be any day now. I knew so little about myself really, since my parents were killed in an attack when I was just a few weeks past my eighth birthday. “Don’t know… don’t want to know.” Something watched them—vision sharp, edges burning. Their breaths curled like ghosts. “Probably just a stray,” Martin said, not believing it. Hydraulics whined. The arms lifted the dumpster. A heavy THUD hit the truck roof—metal shuddered. Walt yelped, tumbling out of the open door. “What the—” The bin trembled. Another bang. Then— With a crashing boom, the dumpster slammed down, and a hulking shadow vaulted from behind it: a towering werewolf, black-furred, eyes burning amber. It hit Martin in a streak of teeth and claws.

Thunking and sharp barks responded before Lya opened the door. “Hi!” she chirped. I looked down at her arms where a puppy with the largest floppiest ears was trying to wiggle out. “You got a familiar?” I asked cautiously. Werewolves weren’t ones for pets. Lya looked down at the dog. “What? No, this is my puppy. It’s just a normal dog?” I laughed, forgetting how new she was to these things. “If it’s happy with you, it isn’t a normal dog. You’re the apex predator, remember?”

It always hurt the first time only this kid is fighting it, it's a miracle he didn't die yet. I tried coaching him, helping him through until he made it. When he fully shifted i was amazed and shocked to say the least, this kid must be Hannah's son, i was supposed to meet him later tonight. But the real shock was he's a puppy, i know he's seventeen but the wolf side in him is a puppy. An adorable puppy may i add, his eyes are mismatched one is pure green while the other was blue with hints of green. A puppy was a rare thing, some might say it's a gift to any pack, he's special that's for sure.

Not from Kylan’s mouth. “I’m not cute, and I’m definitely not your puppy!” “But you are.” “No, I’m not!” My voice turned high-pitched. “And referring to werewolves as ‘puppy’ is really offensive, by the way.” Kylan yawned, not seeming to care at all. “Then don’t be like one.” “I’m not!” I argued. “You don’t know anything about me.” “You think?” he sighed. “You’re not that difficult to read. I know everything I need to know.”

Unfortunately, It's apparent that during my summer vacation, I will live in the very place that has impacted my life more than words could fathom alone. I wish she’d trust me more. I refuse to acknowledge everything I’m feeling as my muscles bulge, bones, ligaments, tendons snap and reform. Claws shoot out of my paws, my teeth lengthening into sharp, pointed weapons that can tear into a prey without any qualms. By the time I’m covered in black, white and gray fur and my transformation is complete, the hurt I was feeling earlier has lost its edge. After a few minutes of pacing the perimeter to make sure that nobody from my pack has ventured this far, I’m left with a feeling of dull discomfort rather than hurt and anger. My wolf’s feelings aren’t as acute as the human in me. I curl up outside the door, suddenly feeling confused.
