Power ran through my veins, my body hitting up as my chest tightened in pain. I grab my chest as I hear whispers, whispers of wolves howling in pain, people crying and pups screaming their mother’s name in pure agony. I groaned, hitting the table in front of me. My chest was very heavy. It was like I was bearing thousands of wolves’ pain in my chest.

But the young werewolf was determined to succeed, driven by a burning desire to unlock the power of the Moon Goddess and become the strongest werewolf in the world. And finally, after months of searching, he found it. The Blood Moon Chronicles: The Book of Power. We can't see who's calling my name through the massacre, and we can't catch on to the scent with the metallic stench of blood overpowering everything. As Silas tries to move back through the battle to ensure whoever called for me is safe, an agonising howl of pain leaves my wolf's lips as a rogue clamps his teeth into our injured shoulder.

Their eyes glowed faint blue, and every mouth moved together, spilling out the cursed song like a choir. The sound slammed into me like a wave. My skull throbbed. My vision wavered. My body wanted to fold, to crawl into the pool with them. I closed my eyes, summoning my vampire powers but they didn’t bother. They didn't even glance at me. The song dug deeper, wrapping around my mind like chains. My werewolf claws slid out, biting into the floorboards as I crouched low, refusing to give ground. The sirens shifted, their jade eyes turning towards me in unison. One broke the surface nearest the edge, its slick arm reaching for me. Of hunger. Chains clink in the darkness around me, followed by the shuffle of broken bodies. I know each sound. I’ve memorized them. There are nine wolves left alive in this chamber. Nine souls slowly being unstitched. Nine hearts bleeding into my veins. Their spirits bend under the pressure, unraveling like threadbare rope. “More,” I whisper, and the blood runes flare brighter. A cry erupts from the far corner—a female voice, high-pitched and cracking. It’s not a scream.

My heart slammed against my chest as he sweeped behind my wolf and hook his arm around his throat. He flexed his claws and then looked at me, our eyes connecting for a second. I held my breath, tears pricking my eyes before he dragged the claws across my wolf's throat. I watched, my entire chest frozen in horror, my chest slamming hard as my wolf collapsed, wheezing on the ground that never existed, blood spilling from the gash across its face. The silver glow in his eyes flickered like a candle in the wind and died, and the massive body hit the ground without a sound.

I say slowly, my voice barely steady, “My heart needs to know you.” And for a second, just a second, his expression slips. Not soft. Not warm. But something cold. Something calculating. Something that makes my wolf snarl. “Then maybe,” he says quietly, his grip tightening just a fraction too much around my waist, “You're right.” My breath catches. Because in that moment, I'm scared to believe that I might be right.
